The Surrounding Lines

The Surrounding Lines, 2015
Video HD 1080i, colour, silent, pal, 16:9, 14′ 53” loop

The Surrounding Lines is an exhibition that deals with the relationship between the poles of political power that globally affect and shape social space and how those structures affect individuals. Evoking a formal modernist discourse as a metaphor for the rationalist systems and devices of power that individuals must resist, this project aim to establish a geography of networks, links, exchanges and connections in different instances of a social formation with its own power-geometries in permanent confrontation.

Using an ambiguous duality between materiality and abstraction this body of work engages the perspective of the social collective and the individual point of view at the same level. It recalls a rationalist perspective of the individual human essence as: each person and their attributes have a unique and eternal existence in nature.

This project, constituted by a series of drawings, a sculpture and a single-channel video, attempts to represent a geometric cartography of power, society and human existence.

This exhibition took place at FirstDraft / Gallery 4, Sydney, July 2015.
